Adult Post-Concussion Support Group

Where: Spaulding Cape Cod

Alcoholics Anonymous

Open to: General Public

Amputee Support Group

Purpose: All amputees, their family and friends are invited to attend. We meet to socialize and discuss common areas of interest, including accessibility and resources, as well as to provide support and share coping strategies with each other.
Where: Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Boston, Lantern Room 5 (5th Floor)
When:  Usually meets on the first Wednesday of every month, from 1-2:30 pm

Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Group

Purpose: This group provides education and support for family members and caregivers of those with Alzheimer's disease.
Where: Spaulding Cape Cod, First Floor Conference Room

Alzheimer's Early Stage Support Group

Purpose:  This group provides education and support for family members and caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s disease.

Aphasia Community Group

Purpose:  This group is for  For individuals with Aphasia, their families and members of the health care community.
Where: Spaulding Cape Cod, 2nd Fl. Dining Room
When:  Meet on the first Wednesday of the month, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. No meetings in July and August.

BABIS (Boston Acquired Brain Injury) Support Group

Purpose: This group is for brain injury survivors, family and friends. It is a large support group, averaging 60 or more people each month.  There is no registration or fee to attend. We also have a facilitated family/caregiver (brain injury-related) support group which meets at the same time.

Where: Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Boston A and B
When: Usually meets on the first Saturday of the month, from 10 am to Noon. If a first Saturday falls on a holiday weekend, the BABIS Support Group will meet on the second Saturday. There is no meeting in July.
Outings: We have two outings a year (May and August), which take the place of that month's meetings.

Lyme Disease

In addition to behavioral health counseling, the Dean Center offers several types of group support to assist patients in coping with the emotional challenges and stress of chronic illness. Guided by a mental health counselor with expertise in tick-related illness, the Dean Center offers the following at no charge:

Purpose: This group is for persons with Multiple Sclerosis and their families

Purpose: For anyone with an interest in Lyme disease.

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Support Group

Purpose:  For family and friends of people with mental illness; general public.
Where: Spaulding Cape Cod, 1st floor conference room
When:  Second Tuesday of each month, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

MBIA (Mass. Brain Injury Assn.) Support Group

Purpose:  Offers brain injury survivors, families and caregivers a fun and caring atmosphere where they can socialize and make new friends.  Events include picnics, Halloween costume ball, Spring Fling dinner/dance, game nights, educational lectures, and much more.

Spinal Cord Injury Support Group (weekly)

Purpose: Weekly support groups for anyone affected by SCI (Spinal Cord Injury), to help and inspire the newly injured through role models and peer mentors, and to support individuals and family members as they begin their post-injury journeys. This group is run by run by Pamela Daly of the Greater Boston Chapter of Spinal Cord Injuries.

Spinal Cord Injury Group (monthly)

Purpose: For persons with spinal cord injury, caregivers and families

Stroke Support Group (Monthly)

Purpose: The Spaulding Stroke Group is a community-based support group that provides socialization and education for stroke survivors. This group is registered with the National Stroke Association, as well as the American Heart Association.

Stroke Survivors' Support Group

Purpose: This group acts as a Forum for education, discussion and support for stroke survivors. The group is facilitated by fellow stroke survivors James Graham and Leanne Vasconcellos.

This group also offers the Stroke Peer Visitation Program, through which experienced stroke peer volunteers offer education and support to current inpatients at Spaulding Cape Cod and their family members.

Stroke Peer Visitation Program

Purpose: The Stroke Peer Visitation Program expands the range of services SCC offers for stroke survivors and their families. The program is offered in conjunction with National Stroke Association and is intended for people who are not able to attend hospital or community-based support groups. Specially trained volunteers provide support and education through home visits. These visits may also be made to stroke survivors in assisted living facilities and nursing homes
