Spaulding Outpatient Center for Children Lexington

The Spaulding Outpatient Center for Children Lexington is an outpatient rehabilitation center  that is committed to providing high-quality, compassionate, evidence-based care to assist children and their families in achieving optimal function, increased independence, and a healthier lifestyle.


The interdisciplinary team members specialize in the pediatric rehabilitation of autism spectrum disorders, coordination disorders, developmental delays and disabilities, learning disabilities, neurologic rehabilitation, neuromuscular disorders, pediatric rehabilitation, seizure disorder, sensory integration and sensory processing disorders, genetic disorders, communication disorders and speech/language delays. The center also offers group therapy classes.


Our Center also provides physiatry services through Dr. MaryKay Nutini.  She will provide a thorough evaluation to determine your child’s needs and will work with the family to reach their ultimate goals.  Follow up visits and botox for spasticity management are also offered as indicated by the physician.

Therapy Gym

In our newly expanded therapy gym, we offer advanced multidisciplinary treatment to a large spectrum of pediatric disorders. Our therapy gyms are filled with fun, age appropriate, therapeutic toys and equipment.

Patient Apartment

Patients practice their activities of daily living in this bedroom equipped with bedding, dresser draws, laundry, and ironing.

Therapists work with patients on feeding skills and daily tasks such as preparing meals.

Group Therapy

Occupational therapist and speech pathologist lead social skills groups to promote language and socialization with peers.

Orthotic Clinic

A collaborative orthotic clinic is held with physical therapists and orthotists to evaluate a child's need for braces.

BOSU Ball Physical Therapy

Physical therapist challenges a patient's balance on the BOSU ball while also working on ball skills with the hoop.

Stair Climbing

Physical therapist incorporates functional mobility training into the session by practicing stair climbing.

Swing sessions

A variety of suspended swings, including this bolster swing, are used in therapy sessions to work on sensory and vestibular systems, as well as balance, core strength, and coordination.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapist creates a fine motor game while involving the patient's core muscles on the peanut ball.

Occupational therapist works on kitchen skills with patient as he makes brownies.

Occupational therapist practices dressing and shoe tying skills with patient.

Patient takes a well deserved break in the ball pit.

Innovative Technology

Therapist uses interactive projection system to motivate patient with jumping activity.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication Program

Therapist works with patient to train her in communication on a communication device.

Speech Therapy

Patient and therapist use interactive play to encourage and teach language.

Gait training

Therapist uses treadmill training to improve patient’s quality of gait.
