Let the healing process being. Outside and in.
At Spaulding Rehabilitation Network, we recognize that recovery is more than just physical. Our holistic approach treats the whole patient—body, mind and spirit—with exceptional care. And with world-class burn experts and state-of-the-art technology, you can rest assured you’re in the most capable hands.
The Spaulding Network offers expert burn care for the full continuum of needs - from inpatient rehabilitation to outpatient follow-up care. At every stage, our goal is to help patients maximize their functional independence, find emotional strength and confidence, and successfully transition back to home, work and the community. Families play an integral role in this process. During hospital stays, families are taught practical skills and therapeutic techniques to assist in the patient’s care after discharge.

Leadership and Innovation
In addition to being a key partner in the Boston-Harvard Burn Injury Model System, one of only four such systems nationwide, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Boston collaborates closely Massachusetts General Hospital and Shriners Hospital for Children to conduct cutting edge research on rehabilitation technology, long term outcomes, contractures and pain. The Model System designation and related grants are awarded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research in five year cycles.
Spaulding’s interdisciplinary teams provide comprehensive care to individuals with acute burn injuries in our renowned Boston program as well as at other Spaulding locations. Depending upon the patient’s individual needs, team members may include physicians, rehab nurses, physical, occupational and speech therapists; physiatrists and wound care specialists; psychiatrists, psychologists; peer counselors, dieticians, social workers, and case managers. The team is dedicated to delivering the highest quality burn rehabilitation and medical management possible.

With the goal of improving the quality of life for all burn injury survivors, Spaulding’s current research efforts are twofold:
- Examining the medicinal, psychological, social, occupational, functional and legal impacts of a large-scale fire on the survivors
- Evaluating the benefits of an exoskeleton-based gaming system for patients with upper-extremity burn contractures
