BOSTON, MA – The Harvard Medical School Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital was honored as the top residency program in the US in the newest 2017/18 Doximity Residency Navigator. The program was also ranked as the top residency program in research output for physical medicine and rehabilitation.

“This recognition is a testament to the quality of research and depth of talent of our faculty, residents, fellows, and alumni” said Dr. Ross Zafonte, the Chair of the Harvard Medical School Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Senior Vice President of Research, Education and Medical Affairs for Spaulding. “We will continue to work even harder to grow and maintain our standing as a leading center of learning in rehabilitative medicine.”

Doximity’s residency reputation listings reflect more than 60,000 peer nominations from board certified physicians. The survey results indicate which residency programs physicians hold in the highest regard for quality of clinical training. Medical students can access Doximity Residency Navigator to search for and discover programs best-suited to their personal interests and career goals. Doximity’s comprehensive database of physician CVs was used to determine which programs produce the most published alumni.

Based at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, the Harvard Medical School Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation officially launched in 1993. Its Residency and Fellowship Program have rapidly grown with over 150 alumni nationwide and over 80 faculty members. The Department has a rich research portfolio with dozens of active studies in areas such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, sports medicine, joint pain, cerebral palsy among others. Spaulding also holds a Model Systems designation from the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research in three specialty areas simultaneously- Brain Injury, Spinal Cord Injury and Brain Injury Rehabilitation.
